The Apple Tree and A Little Boy

Once upon a time, there was a little boy name who always like to be around and play with the apple tree in front of his house. Every day he will be climbing up the apple tree, eating the apples on there, having fun standing on the top of the tree looking around the beautiful nature, and after getting tired he will be resting and taking a nap under the tree. For him, this apple tree was very important. It was like his best friend; they stay together and play together every day. He loves his apple tree so much and the tree loves him so much too.

As time went by, the little boy starts to grow up. He was getting bored with the tree and didn’t come to play around with it as often as he did before. One day, the little boy was feeling sad, so he came and sits under the tree. When the apple tree saw the boy he asked “Are you coming back to play with me?”. The little boy said “I am not a little kid now; I don’t want to play around the apple tree like before. I want to buy a toy car, but I don’t have enough money”. The apple tree then said to boy “I don’t have the money either, but I really want to help you….how about this, you collect my apples and bring them to sell, then you take the money to buy the toy you like.” The little boy was so happy when the tree helped him found out the way. He collected all the apples on the tree and took them to sell. After got the money, he never came back to play with the tree for few years.

One day, the little boy came back to the tree again. He looks getting bigger, taller, and more mature. The apple tree was so happy to see him again. “You’re coming back to play with me?” the tree asked. “I am having my own family, and I have to work every day. I don’t have time to play with you same as before. Right now, I need a house. Can you help me?” the boy said. The apple tree was feeling sad but still wanted to help the little boy. So the tree said “I don’t have a house, but you can cut my branches and use them to build it”. The boy then started to cut down all the branches and carrying them walks away happily. And again, the apple tree was being left and feeling lonely.

Another day in summer, the boy came back again. The apple tree was very happy seeing the little boy came back. “Are you coming back to play with me?” the tree asked. “No, I just feel upset and disappointed about things in my life. I want to sail a boat to a relaxing place far away, can you give me a boat?” the boy asked back. The tree then replied “you can use my trunk to make a boat.” Therefore, the boy cut the trunk of the apple tree. He sail to somewhere far away, and didn’t come back for a long time.

Until many years had past, the boy finally came back again, but this time he became much older than before. When the tree saw him, the tree said “I have nothing left right now, the only thing that left was the dying roots”. The boy replied “I am getting older and older each day, I have no teeth left to eat, I couldn’t climbed like before. Now I don’t want anything else just a place to rest”. Then the tree said “come to sit next to me, you are welcome to rest in here”. The boy walked slowly and sit next to the tree smiling and feeling happy…

The End

In this story, the apple tree represent as our parents. When we were young, we like to play and stay with our parents all the time. But as we grow up, we spend less time with our parents. Some people only came to their parents when they need help. But no matter what, our parents will always help us with the best they can.

Chinese Cultural Understanding

After presenting the information to the class, we took the video and edit it. In the video, we adds some pictures related to the topics and add background music to it, including some effect and transitions between the picture and video to make it more interesting, and also add the caption to the video as well. Why might The Great Gatsby be considered “Timeless” ?

What is the timeless life lesson you have been taught? First of all, what is timeless? Timeless means unaffected or unchanged by time. When you describe something as timeless, you mean that it is important and meaningful, and that you won’t forgot it no matter how long it had past. In our life, we have been told and taught many timeless life lessons by different people whether from our parents, teacher, friends, or even from the book. And one of the timeless book I’m talking is “The Great Gatsby”. “ The Great Gatsby ” was one of the greatest novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925. Even though this book was written long time ago but that doesn’t mean its lesson cannot be apply in our today’s life. No matter how long time had past, the book was still important today as it was in the past. The timeless life lessons in there still very meaningful today.

“ Whenever you fell like criticizing anyone, just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had ”, this was one of the advice Nick’s father told him. His father is telling him not to judge or criticize others, because those people might not have the privilege like what he had. Therefore, what the quote trying to teach us is that every time we are going to judge someone, just stop and try to think and understand what make that the person act the way they are, what cause them to be in that situation, they might have their own reasons. Maybe the person have been through problems or any obstacles, or maybe that person wasn’t lucky to have parents guide and teach them. And because of this, we shouldn’t judge anyone without knowing them well enough. This is one of the timeless life lesson in the book that we could apply to our life.

Another lesson the book had taught is believe in your dream. Just like Jay Gatsby, one of the main character in the book. He was born in a middle class family. One day he found himself falling in love with a girl who came from a higher class family. He wanted to marry to her, but couldn’t because he is not as rich as the girl. However, Gatsby did not give up, he continued to believe in his hope and dream, finally he ended up having his own mansion and being rich. This has prove to us that we can always make our dream come true. All you have to do is believe in yourself and never giving up. No one else could understand you more than yourself, therefore it’s important to you to keep pushing yourself to achieve you goal.

These are just the two lessons I chosen from the book. As you read more and go through every chapters of this book, you will find many others teaching in there. “ The Great Gatsby ” was one of the recommend book to read. It’s both enjoyable and given you timeless life lessons in the same time.

This presentation is about Chinese Culture which had done by 6 people in our group. Each person response in their own topics, some people would talk about the food, clothes, art, sports, festival, etc. My part is about martial art which will talk about Kung Fu. 5 Great (and free) Cloud Storage Providers

Summary

This article is basically talking about cloud storage providers. The 5 great storage providers that the author had suggest are Google Drive, Apple iCloud, Microsoft Skydrive, Dropbox, and Box. Google Drive could be a nice option for those who having Google Account. It allow to keep files up to 5GB for free. And able to upload file maximum up to 10 GB. Second is Apple iCloud, if you are using Apple device then iCloud could be more suitable for you. The free storage for this is 5GB. And it only support for IOS mobile devices. Next is Microsoft Skydrive, this storage provider can store file up to 7GB. For any users who are using Microsoft Office, this could be a good option. This can be work with Windows and Macs on PCs, but on mobile devices only IOS and Windows phone. Forth is Dropbox, it has 2Gb of free storage. The advantage of it is easy to use and also provide useful feature. The last one is Box, it has free storage of 5GB, and it’s more suitable for business users. It can be work with all PC and mobile device application.

• Cloud Storage Provider – nowadays cloud storage becoming so popular, because people prefer to keep their files in the internet rather than bring a USB.

• The 5 Great Storage – The author suggest us the 5 great and free storage for people who are interested in it, which are Google Drive, Apple iCloud, Microsoft Skydrive, Dropbox, and Box.

• Limit of Storage – The article also tell about the limit of free storage in each providers.

Potential Strength 

• This article could be very useful for those who are searching and finding for storage providers. Some people might not know much about the storage providers, therefore, this could help them to understand more. After reading this article, I had know 3 more storage providers that I never and heard use before. I only familiar with Google Drive and Apple iCloud. So this article is kind of useful and interesting.
• The author had explained clearly about each storage providers to make the readers understanding about each of them.
• After reading the articles, people could have more options in choosing the storage provider that they interested at.

Potential Weakness

• The author could add more picture about each of the storage providers, so that the readers could have the image of how the is it look like.
• It would be more interesting and nicer if the author add some of the videos related to the article.

Discussion Questions

• I would like to learn about how each of them use and work, and know more about their advantage and disadvantage of each one. To see which one is better.

This is our powerpoint presentation about the Internet Searching. The presentation will talk about how can you verify the information in internet, and also talk about google search operator as well. Our group have 9 members. And we finish the by divide the work for each person to do. Some people did the introduction, some did the google search operators, and some did the conclusion. After than we put all the information together and form a final powerpoint presentation.

Nowadays, many people start to use iPhone more and more each day. There are many new and cool apps you can download in the iPhone, it allow you to keep in touch with your friends, connect with social life no matter where you are. Even though, you are using iPhone everyday, but there 7 facts about it that you probably might never know. For example, do you know that iPhone was originally called ‘Purple’, have you every know when iPhone was first introduce, Steve Jobs made a prank call to Starbucks, the power chip in the iPhone was made by Samsung, etc. These are 3 of the 7 facts that you might not know before. Below, I’m going to discuss all of them to you.

 

• Apple’s smartphone wasn’t the first iPhone.
  • Actually, iPhone was then a Cisco brand. The Cisco “iPhone” was a VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) device. It’s a communications protocol that allows for telephonic communication via the Internet. When the Apple’s iPhone was announce. the companies settle the trademark lawsuit the keep the right the iPhone name.

 

• In iPhone ads, the time is always 9:42 a.m.
  • The reason is because the administrative want the time shown on the screen to be close to the one on customer’s watches. Therefore, they design to make the product occur around 40 mins into the presentation.

 

• Picture of Bono is hidden in your iPhone.
  • When you open the music function in your iPhone, below where it said “Artists” you’ll find a small icon with a person singing into the microphone. That’s Bono’s silhouette , a lead singer of the rock band U2.

 

• The Original Apple Maps icon suggested drivers to drive off an overpass.
  • The first Apple Map’s icon which was shipped with iOS6 had showed the drivers to drive off the overpass. But later, they had re-design the icon and change it to showed the way more carefully.

 

• The iPhone was originally called ‘Purple’.
  • This was according to the evidence from Scott Forstall, the members of the team named the Apple phone as “Purple Dorm”.

 

• Steve Jobs made a prank call when introducing the first phone.
  • On January 9, 2007, when the iPhone was first introduce, the Apple CEO used it to make a prank call. Steve Jobs used his iPhone and phone called Starbucks. “I would like to order 4,00 lattes, please” he said. “Just kidding, Wrong number. Goodbye” he grin. And some people even continued to do that prank today.

 

• Apple’s arch-rival Samsung makes the processors that power the iPhone.
  • according to what technical intelligence expert said, after examine the computer chip that powers the iPhone by using an electron microscope. It said that the iPhone’s chip was made by Samsung.

 

• Potential Strength/Advantages
  • The author did brought up some of the facts about the iPhone that I never know before. For example, I just realize that the “Artist” icon in the music function on iPhone is the silhouette of Bono. Also, I never knew that iPhone was originally called Purple. One more thing that I found interesting and funny is that Steve Jobs made a prank call to Starbucks to order 4,000 lattes. And that was the day iPhone made a first real public phone call.

 

• Potential Problems/Disadvantages 
  • The only problem/Disadvantages I found in the article is the information for each of the fact are too little. In my opinion, I think the author should write a bit more detail so the readers could understand more. But over all, the article was interested.

 

• Questions
  • After reading the article, I don’t really understand the fact about iPhone original name where is said “The first rule of Fight Club is you do not to talk about Fight Club”.
  •  Second thing is fact about the power chip in iPhone. Why don’t the iPhone make the chip themselves.
