Heartbleed Bug

hb
How did it happened?
  • Heartbleed bug is a buffer underflow-attack in OpenSSL. This version of OpenSSL view data as 64K, it reread the data over and over again, and keep sending the user 64K of what it’s thinking. This is very dangerous because in 64K of data, it might include the personal and private data of the user  inside.
Who got the effected?
  • Smartphone and tablets running version 4.1.1 of Android were in danger and couldn’t defend to these attacks. However, Microsoft’s and Apple’s system are still safe from these attacks. Beside this, some popular website such as Yahoo, Facebook, and Google are also affected by this attack.
What was the damage?
  • The hackers are able to steal the information from the remote server memory, not only that, they were allow to have many chances in keep trying to retrieve the information. Therefore, people who still kept their personal information such as username, passwords, credit card numbers, etc. in the memory when the hackers begin yo attack, are likely to have a high chance of being attacked.
How to prevent it or recover from it?
  • Do not log into accounts from afflicted sites until you’re sure that the company has heartbleed-lockpatched the program.
  • Change passwords of sensitive accounts (such as banks, emails) once you have got confirmation of a security patch.
  • Be aware and always check the bank account. This is very important because there is high chance that the attackers would be access to user’s credit card information. Therefore, if you don’t want to lose your money in your bank account, then you need to be careful and constantly checking it.
What did you learn from it?
  • By knowing the Heartbleed Bug, it helps us to be more careful and be aware from the
attackers. It also remind us to check t=our important account co
nstantly, and also change the password of sensitive accounts suchas bank account or email. It’s always better to prevent and keep ourselves safe than wait till the attackers to attack and have to regret later.

Why you should never send negative emails

Summary:

  • We should never send negative email even though we feel close with the person and want to share our feelings and emotion. This nega2is because email is not a right place for sharing emotional feelings. There is one philosophy that has proven this is true, negative emails often turn out to be a very poor communication, the best way is to talked in person or on phone.
Major Concept:
  • The reasons why negative emanational emails are bad..
    • Lack of tone, body language and eye contact. We can’t know how they feel; are they angry?sad? Their emotions in our of our control.
    • It can create a battle to win out. Just like in debate, we try to bring up the phrase that could be shoot down others. This would likely to turn out into a fight rather than understanding each others.
    • Ready, Set, Dwell. When we receive an emotional email, it’s hard for us to know exactly how the other person feels, because email doesn’t show expression. So we should better talk about the issue in live conversation.
    • We can be irrational in the moment. When our emotions are strong, we would tend to do things without thinking carefully. By sharing the emotion throughout emails might sometime cause us to feel regret later.
  • Things that we could do instead of sending emails…
    • Just take it offline. You might write out your emotion and save as draft but don’t sent it. This could improve both your sanity and ability to work well with others.
    • Set up a regular time to share emotions. When you feel like sharing your thought, feeling, etc. you could set up a time to talk with your friends. It’s better than sending an email.
    • Write it out but don’t send it. By writing your emotion down will make you feel better.
nega1

  • The article is base on personal experience, so it might not apply to everyone.
Discussion Questions:
  • How about the person we send the email to is a very close friend and understand us well, will this consider as bad too?
  • If we send an email to sorry them after we send the negative email, is this ok?

Chinese Poster

Chinese new year is coming up, therefore, we are assigned to create a Chinese new year poster. In this poster, we are using photoshop, illustrator, and as well as indesign in creating it. The background and the horse were made in photoshop. Other things like flowers, text, and lantern were mostly made in illustrator. By using illustrator, it helps to made to picture more clear; there wont be small pixel when we zoom in a lot. After we done will all the pictures and text, we organise and arrange everything in indesign, the print it out. This is my first time using illustrator and indesign. Even though they are quite hard to use, but if we spend more time with it, it’s also fun to play with.

Wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year 2014 🙂
